The Sheep Detectives

Sheep. Solving crimes. In England. I saw Hugh Jackman's name attached and hit play without asking a single follow-up question, and thank god I did.

The sheep are the leads. Let me say that again so it sinks in: the sheep are the leads. And they absolutely carry this thing. Funny, sweet, satisfying in a way that snuck up on me. I wasn't expecting to actually care whether a flock of woolly amateur sleuths cracked the case, and yet here we are.

Went in cold, came out grinning, and I've been thinking about it since.

Huge is doing what Huge does. He plays the shepherd like a man who genuinely loves his sheep, and you buy every second of it. There's a warmth to him in this that just works. He's the anchor, and the movie needs one when your other main characters are, you know, livestock.

Nick Braun as the bumbling detective is a treat. He starts out as exactly what you'd expect, the guy tripping over his own feet at every crime scene, but he grows into it. By the end you're rooting for him almost as hard as you're rooting for the sheep. Almost.

And the town itself does a lot of the heavy lifting too. The English countryside, the cozy village vibe, the townspeople popping in and out as suspects and side characters. It all adds up to a place you actually want to spend two hours in.

Loved it. Went in cold, came out grinning, and I've been thinking about it since. Give me sheep detectives every day of the week. If they make a sequel with the same flock, I am first in line.
