In the Lost Lands
Bautista and Jovovich on the marquee. I was in. I was so in. And then I watched it.
What a bummer.
Disappointment hits harder when you were rooting for it.
Look, Dave did his Dave thing. Stoic, no emotions, says the words they hand him. That's not a knock; that's basically what I showed up for. Milla was fine. Just ok. Both of them delivered the lines they were given, and honestly, given what they were given, that's about all you could ask.
Because the lines? Iffy. The plot? Iffy. The story underneath the plot? Also iffy. The color of the whole thing looked off to me, and the cinematography didn't do it any favors either. The whole movie has this look that I just couldn't get past.
I'll be honest, there was a stretch where I thought about getting up and doing literally anything else. I stuck it out, but the fact that the thought even crossed my mind tells you where I was at.
I really, really wanted this one to work. Two actors I like, a setup that sounded fun, and I came away frustrated more than anything. Disappointment hits harder when you were rooting for it.
If you're a Bautista completist or a Milla die-hard, fine, you know who you are. Everybody else? You can skip this and sleep great.
