Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City

The monsters look good. The zombie effects hold up. And then everything around them just sort of sits there.

Kaya, Robbie, Tom Hopper, and Hannah did fine work. Donal Logue is always a good time, that guy could read a phone book and I'd watch. So the acting wasn't the problem.

Watchable. Forgettable.

Neal McDonough was the problem. Love the guy, but this was not the part for him. It just didn't click, and every time he was on screen I felt it.

The special effects were a letdown too. The zombies and a few of the creatures looked solid, but the bigger picture stuff didn't deliver the way I wanted it to. When you're making a Resident Evil movie, the special effects need to be the thing you knock out of the park. They weren't.

And the plot was thin. Just thin. There's not a lot of meat on the bone here, and when the story doesn't grab you, the spotty effects and miscast roles start to stick out more than they should.

Watchable. Forgettable. I won't be revisiting this one and I'm not pointing anybody else at it either.
