Unforgiven

My new favorite Western. There, I said it.

Eastwood and Freeman at the absolute peak of their powers, and then Gene Hackman strolls in as a supporting piece and damn near walks away with the whole thing. That's not a supporting performance, that's a heist.

The plot does the work. The acting does the work. And the suspense? It coils tighter and tighter until you're sitting forward in your seat without realizing it. Every piece of this movie is pulling in the same direction.

Seeing it in a theater absolutely made it better. Some movies need the dark room and the big screen, and this is one of them.

It stuck with me on the drive home. It's still sticking with me now. Incredible movie, top to bottom.
