Jack the Giant Slayer

Flipped this on with zero expectations and got absolutely floored. What a fun damn movie.

The cast is what does it. Nicholas Hoult as Jack just works; he's got the everyman thing locked in. Stanley Tucci is, as always, Stanley Tucci, which is to say he's amazing in whatever you put him in. Ewan McGregor leading his knights around is a blast. Ian McShane plays the king and he's entertaining as hell. And Eleanor Tomlinson as Isabelle? She sold me completely.

What a fun damn movie.

That's five performances I actually cared about in a movie I expected to half-watch while looking at my phone. Instead I was locked in.

Will I watch it again? Yeah, probably. Did it stick with me after the credits rolled? More than it had any right to.

Sometimes you stumble into one of these and remember why you keep saying yes to movies you've never heard much about. This is one of those.
