Big blue boy scout, welcome back.

David Corenswet had a tough assignment stepping into the cape after Henry Cavill, who is one of my guys, and I'll be straight with you: he pulls it off. He's an adequate replacement, which sounds like a backhanded compliment but I mean it as a real one. Replacing Cavill and not face-planting is a win. Now I just want to see if David can keep it up across more outings, because first at-bats are one thing and a career is another.

He took the keys to the kingdom and didn't crash the car; he actually went somewhere with it.

Nicholas Hoult, though. That's the headline for me. He's the best Lex Luthor since Gene Hackman, and I don't say that lightly. Hoult has been one of my favorites for a while and he absolutely delivers here. Every scene he's in, the movie gets a little sharper.

Rachel's Lois Lane is very solid too. No notes. She fits.

And I have to tip the cap to James Gunn. The guy is very good at what he does, and you can feel his fingerprints all over this thing in a way that works. He took the keys to the kingdom and didn't crash the car; he actually went somewhere with it.

Took the kids, and the theater absolutely made it better. This is the kind of movie that belongs on a big screen with a crowd. I walked out happy, the kids walked out happy, and a few scenes were still rattling around my head later that night.

Way better than I went in expecting. I'd see it again, I'd tell pretty much anyone to go check it out, and I'm officially on board for whatever this version of Superman becomes next.

Don't blow it, David. We're rooting for you.
